Toby Keith returned to Nashville for a concert, which was the first in 13 years for the performer. The venue chosen for Keith was Ascend Amphitheater, a stop on his “Interstates and Tailgates” tour.
Keith told The Tennessean previously that outdoor concerts are his choice and after Starwood Amphitheater closed in 2006, he wasn’t able to perform in Music City until the Ascend was opened.
Added to his band, the singer brought a horn section he nicknamed “The Knuckleheads.” Along with his band, Keith included special guests songwriter Scotty Emerick and country icon Eddy Raven.
A medley tribute was also given to the late icon Merle Haggard. Known for his outspoken personality and love of patriotism, Keith included “American Soldier,” then brought out a group of veterans to help him sing “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American).”
