When Martina McBride moved to Nashville to start her country career, she didn’t know a soul, or anything about the music business for that matter.
In a recent interview with Country Aircheck, McBride discusses her early years, her start, and lessons learned. She also talks about what she learned from country superstar Garth Brooks about touring.
“Being a part of Garth’s organization and watching how he was with his fans and the energy he put out onstage,” McBride recollects, “it was family out there. That definitely made an impression on me as a young artist. Overall, it was just a great introduction to touring.”
She often called herself “the most-green artist” during that era because she would sell Brooks’ T-shirts beforehand then open his shows.
During that time, Brooks gave McBride an important piece of information that she took to heart and still remembers to this day.
“The advice that Garth gave me was to take time and soak it all in. Live in the moment. Don’t wish it away,” she said, “Don’t want it to go faster. Just really enjoy it and relish it.”
