Tonight’s CMT Awards were all about collaborations and they wasted no time by kicking the awards show off with one of the biggest songs of the summer, “Wasted Time” by Keith Urban. Urban was joined by tour mates Brett Eldredge and Maren Morris for the show opener of his hit summer anthem.

The party wasn’t just in Bridgestone Arena; Billy Ray Cyrus and Rock n Roll Hall of Fame Members Cheap Trick took the party to Broadway in Downtown Nashville to perform a collection of hits (“Don’t be Cruel” and “Surrender”) in front of a sea of fans. Despite sharing the stage with legendary rockers, Billy Ray stayed true to his country roots by channeling his inner Elvis Presley during the performance of “Don’t be Cruel”.

One of the most anticipated performances of the night was “Mr. Worldwide”, Pitbull himself, being joined onstage for a rendition of his hit “Messin’ Around” by Leona Lewis and Cassadee Pope. In true Pitbull fashion, the hot performance featured background dancers in sparkly, tight bodysuits.

Each performer had more of a fancy production as the night went on, Carrie Underwood put everyone in awe as she sang her “Church Bells” single with a dramatic red graphic backdrop complete with a pyro end. Jason Aldean included fireworks to close his performance of “Lights Come On,” on Nashville’s Lower Broadway stage. Little Big Town also gave a mesmirizing performance with Pharrell Williams complete with an optical illusion box around the band while Pharrell added his own percussion expertise to the slow jam.

This production was mesmerising @littlebigtown #CMTAwards
