“Calling It News” was written by Country Music Icon Clint Black and Hayden Nicholas back in 2012 “sometime around that election cycle.” The song first appeared on Black’s 2015 album release On Purpose and “has never seemed more relevant than now,” said Black. A satirical look at how coverage of the Presidential race has presented itself, the video for the song can now be seen here.
Black insists that this video “shouldn’t be taken as a political statement, but rather as a way to illustrate how our focus has been steered away from the important issues facing our country today.”
The video features clips taken from numerous news broadcasts including CNN’s Anderson Cooper’s 360, FOX’s The O’Reilly Factor, ABC News, CBS News, CNN’s The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer, amongst numerous others.
Most show just how far-flung from the policy issues coverage has veered.
“If we had the footage, we probably could’ve made an equally absurd video of the Jefferson/Adams election,” said Black.
Clint Black has earned his place as one of the most successful artists in Country music history having written, recorded and released more than 100 songs, with nearly one third achieving “hit song” status on Country radio. He’s sold more than 20 million albums worldwide and charted nearly two dozen #1 singles including, “Nothing But The Taillights, “Like The Rain” and “When I Said I Do.” Since his debut Black has won numerous awards from the American Music Awards, Academy of County Music, The Grammys and the Country Music Association. Black came onto the scene in 1989 with the debut of his critically acclaimed fan favorite Killin’ Time, which won him Album of the Year, Top Male Vocalist, and Top New Male Vocalist. The Triple-Platinum release made history as the first ever debut album in any genre to boast five #1 hits including “A Better Man” and the title track, which were 1989’s #1 and #2 singles.
